How to read a video's info
Where this data comes from
YouTube's official Data API v3, using the same public metadata any developer can request: snippet, contentDetails and statistics. Nothing is scraped from the page and nothing is guessed. Results are cached for about an hour, so a fresh view count can lag slightly behind the watch page.
The tags — hidden since 2012, still there
YouTube removed tags from the public watch page in 2012, but they never left the metadata: they still sit on every video and the API still returns them. They tell you what the uploader thought the video was about, spelling variants included. Read them for research — do not copy a competitor's tag list wholesale onto your video, because tags describe your content, and mismatched ones do nothing for you.
What the monetization badge means
The badge reflects one field: licensedContent. YouTube sets it to true when the video sits on a channel linked to a YouTube partner and that partner has claimed the video — mechanically, what monetization is. So it can tell you whether a niche's successful channels are in the Partner Program, and whether your own videos are flagged after approval. It cannot tell you how much anything earns, whether ads are limited, or who gets paid when a music rights holder claimed the video. Seeing ads is not proof either way: YouTube runs ads on plenty of non-partner videos and keeps that money itself.
What the SEO score is for
It grades metadata, not the video. A high score means the title, description, tags and hashtags are complete and consistent with each other; it does not promise views. Use it as a checklist against your own uploads, and as a quick way to see whether a competitor's reach comes from strong metadata or from something else entirely.

How do I see a YouTube video's tags?

Is the monetization check accurate?
It is accurate about what it reads: YouTube's public licensedContent flag, which turns true when a partner has claimed the video. That is the strongest monetization signal YouTube publishes. It is not a revenue statement, it says nothing about limited ads, and on a claimed music video the money may go to the rights holder rather than the uploader.
Does the creator know I looked at their video's info?
No. This is public metadata requested through YouTube's API with our own key. The video's owner sees nothing — not a view, not a notification.
Why do some videos show no tags at all?
Because the uploader left the field empty. It is common on large channels that rely on title and description alone, and it is one of the cheapest edges a small channel still has.
