What YouTube Tools Really Cost in 2026: vidIQ vs TubeBuddy vs VidAI — Tiers vs Credits, for 1, 3 and 10 Channels

What YouTube tools really cost in 2026: vidIQ, TubeBuddy and VidAI priced side by side for one, three and ten channels, with the two pricing models explained — per-channel tiers versus pay-per-work credits — the credit arithmetic shown in full, every price dated and linked, and an honest verdict on where each model wins and where VidAI is not the right buy.

Updated 23 August 2026. Prices come from the vendors' public pages or a dated third-party breakdown, linked where stated; they change often — tell us and we'll fix anything stale. Disclosure: we make VidAI. We've tried to earn your trust by showing our arithmetic and naming the cases where a competitor is cheaper or simply better.

Comparing YouTube tools by their headline price is like comparing cars by the colour. The number that matters is what a month costs for your channel count and your workload — and the three tools most creators shortlist price those two things in opposite ways. This post explains both models, then runs three realistic creators through them. (For features rather than prices, start with the tools roundup.)

The two models

Two cards: tiers per channel (vidIQ, TubeBuddy, 1of10, ViewStats) — you buy access to features per channel, price steps with features, TubeBuddy gates A/B tests at Star and bulk/AutoTranslate at Legend with one channel per license, vidIQ jumps from Free to Boost $199/yr and meters AI actions with expiring credits; versus credits per work with channels included (VidAI) — 1 credit per title or per 300 characters translated into a language, most AI tools 1 credit, chapters 10, full description 20, subtitles and Copy for AI 0, plans from €2.99 with 2 channels to €49.99 with 50, extra credits never expire, no keyword volumes or A/B tests at any price

Tiers per channel. vidIQ, TubeBuddy, 1of10 and ViewStats sell access: a monthly price unlocks a feature set, and the price steps up with features rather than with how much you use them. Two details decide the real bill. First, channels: TubeBuddy licenses one channel per subscription (extra channels need extra licenses, with a 25% discount on Legend), so a three-channel creator buys three. Second, metered AI: vidIQ's paid tiers also count AI actions in credits that reset monthly (a title generation 3, a thumbnail 22, an AI Coach message 10) — so a tier is a ceiling, not all-you-can-eat.

Credits per work, channels included. VidAI sells credits; every feature and a bundle of channels comes with every plan, including Free. A credit is a unit of work: 1 credit = one title, or 300 characters translated into one language; most AI tools (short description, tags, keywords, hashtags) are 1; the heavy ones are chapters 10, full description 20, advanced tags 10, playlist 3; subtitle translation and Copy for AI are 0. Extra credits never expire, and monthly subscribers earn up to double their plan's credits over six months. The flip side: no amount of credits buys keyword search volumes, competitor tracking, A/B tests or analytics, because VidAI doesn't make those.

The price lists (August 2026)

Tool Free Paid tiers Channels
vidIQ (pricing) $0 · 150 AI credits/mo · 3 keyword results per search Boost $199/yr (≈$16.58/mo) or $39 m-to-m · Max $39/mo yearly · Coaching ≈$99/mo per account; check vidIQ's channel limits for your tier
TubeBuddy (LensPOV breakdown, tubebuddy.com) $0 · 3 keyword searches/day Pro $7.99 ($4.99 annual) · Star $15.99 ($11.99) · Legend $39.99 ($29.99) one per license; extra licenses extra
VidAI (plans, EUR) €0 · 250 credits Entry €2.99 · Basic €5.99 · Pro €11.99 · Max €19.99 · Ultra €49.99 (1,000 / 2,500 / 5,000 / 10,000 / 25,000 credits) 2 / 5 / 10 / 20 / 50 included

Three creators, one month

Table of three creators (1 channel with 8 English videos wanting keywords; 3 channels with 20 videos translated into 20 languages; an agency with 10 channels mixing research, bulk and translation) against vidIQ, TubeBuddy and VidAI, with rounded August 2026 monthly costs and notes; footer: per-channel tiers win for one channel with heavy research, credits win when languages or channels multiply, and neither replaces the other

1 · One channel, eight videos a month, English only

You want keyword research and a title, description and tags per video.

  • vidIQ: Free if three keyword results per search are enough; otherwise Boost at ≈$16.58/month annual for unlimited research. AI generations draw from the monthly credit pool.
  • TubeBuddy: Pro at $4.99/month annual — Keyword Explorer plus AI tools on one channel; the cheapest paid research tier of the three. A/B tests start at Star ($11.99).
  • VidAI: 8 videos × (title 1 + description 1 + tags 1) = 24 credits — inside the Free plan's 250. Add chapters (10 each) and you're at 104; still Free. But VidAI has no keyword volumes, so this creator should pair it with vidIQ Free or TubeBuddy Pro for research. Honest call: for a research-first solo creator, TubeBuddy Pro is the better first subscription.

2 · Three channels, twenty videos a month, twenty languages

Titles, descriptions and subtitles translated for every upload.

  • TubeBuddy: AutoTranslate is Legend-only and per channel: Legend plus two discounted licenses ≈ $75/month annual (≈$100 month-to-month) — then 20 videos × 20 languages = 400 trips through Studio's Add language dialog, and no subtitles. The full worked example.
  • vidIQ: translation is one language at a time with manual publishing and no subtitles — effectively a different job. Its value here is research, at Boost prices.
  • VidAI: a 1,200-character description is 4 credits per language plus 1 for the title: 5 × 20 languages = 100 credits per video; 20 videos = 2,000 credits. Basic at €5.99 covers it (2,500 credits, 5 channels), subtitles included at 0 credits; Saver mode halves the job, and six months of loyalty doubles the pool. This is the scenario the credit model was built for.

3 · An agency with ten channels

Research for some clients, bulk catalog edits for others, translation for a few, forty videos a month.

  • TubeBuddy: Legend on every channel for bulk edits, A/B tests and AutoTranslate ≈ $300+/month annual — and it genuinely does the bulk-editing job nothing else does.
  • vidIQ: Boost or Max per account; confirm how many channels your tier covers. Strong research, no publishing actions.
  • VidAI: Pro at €11.99 covers ten channels with 5,000 credits; a heavy month is topped up with extra credits at €2.40 per 1,000. It does not replace TubeBuddy's bulk editor or vidIQ's research — a realistic agency stack is VidAI for writing and localization plus one of the others for the job it's best at.

How to read this honestly

  • Per-channel tiers win for one channel with weekly research use: the price is predictable and the research is unlimited on the right tier.
  • Credits win the moment languages or channels multiply, or when your months are bursty — work you don't do costs nothing.
  • Neither replaces the other. Credits don't buy research; tiers don't buy 20-language publishing. The common pattern is YouTube Studio's free tools, one research subscription, and VidAI for the writing and translation.

FAQ

Is VidAI cheaper than vidIQ? For AI writing and translation, usually yes — from free to €5.99 covers most creators. For keyword research, the question doesn't apply: VidAI doesn't offer it, vidIQ is built for it.

Is VidAI cheaper than TubeBuddy? For multi-channel or multilingual work, yes by a wide margin; for one channel that needs bulk catalog edits or A/B tests, TubeBuddy is the right buy and VidAI can't substitute.

Do VidAI credits expire? Monthly plan credits reset each month; extra credits you buy never expire. vidIQ's credits don't roll over.

What happens if I run out? Extra credits from €2.00–€9.99 per 1,000 depending on plan; Saver mode halves translation costs; subtitles and Copy for AI stay free.

Do these prices include VAT? VidAI's are in EUR as listed on the plans page; vidIQ and TubeBuddy in USD as listed on theirs. Check your region's tax on checkout.
